Official Guide To The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Reviews
This book was received in good time and the information in the book is so absolutely fabulous, you will feel like you have walked through the library, it is that good, GREAT information, and super pictures, add this to your library.
Very helpful. Planning a trip soon.
smithsonian's holdings are extensive and this book glosses over a few highlights. this sampling is not really a guidebook. It's advertising. just tantalizes and reveals practically nothing
This book was great for me as a teacher but would be great for anyone interested in science or history. Super photos and great captions. I love this book!
I have always loved the Smithsonian. I have been there three times and loved every minute of it. There are different buildings showcasing certain subjects. There is a dinousaur and fossil museum. there are all kinds of life and natural habitats. I could spend a lifetime there and never see it all. I loved the Gem & Mineral exhibit with the "HOPE" diamond. There are exhibits of every lifeform on the planet. There is Geology, Astronomy and history.
If you are preparing to visit the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum it would be wise to read this book beforehand to get a comprehensive overview of the museum, its history and its collections. With nice photographs and an easy narrative the book does a good job of evenly going through the numerous exhibits within the museum.
The guide put out by the Smithsonian is great, but the only copy I could get was old since the museum is coming out with a new guide soon. It contains maps, pictures, an indication of exhibits at each museum, etc. I would recommend it for anyone who is going to visit the Smithsonian. The guide helps you to make intelligent decisions about what you want to see in the time you have to spend.
I found this book to be incredibly helpful in giving me some background to what I can expect at the Smithsonian. Being on a tight schedule, I know I can't see everything, and this book helped me to create my "must see" list!
