The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: Volume 1 Reviews

I stumbled across this little gem the other day while on Amazon. It was a bit of an impulse buy at first but has since turned into one of my favorite reads this month. "The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories" is a collaborative work of (very) short stories by members of the website Hitrecord ([...]) which is directed by actor and artist Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, 50/50 etc). This highly enjoyable collection of stories and illustrations range from the fanciful to the profound. One page finds a curious King Midas another the "chance" encounter between Fate and Coincidence. My particular favorite begins "just before I died my life passed before my eyes..." (pg 24) which accompanies a stunning illustration of a person in shadow surrounded by lines, the placement of which suggest the inside of an eye. Each story is left up to the interpretation of the reader which gives this collection a quasi-creative-writing-workshop feel to it, making the English major in me smile and cringe at times.

I'm not sure why this is labeled as a children's book. I purchased this for my fourth grade classroom library, and after reading it, will have to find another use for it. It is not child appropriate, as there are some mature themes. The length of the tiny stories are exactly that, and the illustrations are nice, but it reminded me of something you would find written by moderately talented high school students in a literary magazine.

The stories in this little volume are anything but tiny in scope. The are few words, but few are needed to spark my imagination so I really enjoyed the stories as well as the illustrations, which in some cases add to the words and in others offer a completely different take on what I had in mind, which was awesome. Can't wait to get volumes 2, 3 and as many as come out.

I've only ever had the second volume for like 3 years and I always planned on getting the first and third, but never got around to it until now (could never find them in any of the bookstores here)! I love these stories so much, they're so calming and nice to re/read. It says it's a used book, but I can hardly tell aside from the sticker that says "used/acceptable" so I think that's a good sign, haha. Currently waiting on the third to arrive!

The book itself has more of a focus on the artwork in comparison to the stories. There are more few stories because most pages feature a single poetic sentence. That being said every page and story seems to be put together to fit cohesively. The entire book has varying subjects but the overall undertone of the book has the same lighthearted and romantic vibe book. I wouldn't suggest getting for simply decorative purposes, like a coffee table book since it's quite small.

The best way to describe this "Tiny Book" is mind opening. With little stories that stretch your imagination in phenomenal ways with just a few words and art that adds a 1000 words to each story you would be crazy not to purchase this book! To see the masterpiece imaginative minds of many people mend together in such a way is truly inspiring. This book isn't just a bunch of small stories, it is a bunch of tiny stories that will take you to places your imagination and mind couldn't go without it, please do not miss out on this book!

Know that this is a tiny book, filled with tiny stories that are big in thought. I knew what I was buying so I was happy when I received it. The book itself is the perfect size to throw in a backpack and just go. I love contemplating the small lines of text and imagining something greater in relation to them. This is a special book, accept that if you read it and I guarantee you will love it.

Basically a book of two sentence stories, the size of a kids book with the same number of pages as one. Pics are cute and it's OK if your into cute pics and a light light reading session but don't expect this to be a reading break at work type of book if you want to be taken seriously.
